The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. The AHA has two main offices, located in Washington, D.C. and Chicago. We are currently seeking a Instructional Designer, AHE Learning & Development for our Chicago office. This position is a hybrid role (three days in the office, two days working remote). Starting base salary = $87,000 - $109,000 (commensurate with related experience).

The Senior Instructional Designer, AHE Learning & Development designs and develops educational content with a focus on utilizing eLearning technology for new and existing programs. These educational programs enable association members to build the desired knowledge, skills, and competence that meet organizational and team needs. Designs content for professionals within the discipline of healthcare environmental services, including cleaning practice and disinfection; financial stewardship; regulatory compliance; selection of furnishings and finishes; management, leadership; and infection prevention. Collaborates with team members and subject matter experts on the development of a variety of educational media including content for the digital micro-learning subscriptions.

  1. Design and develop content for all educational programs, courses or other instructional materials and educational tools that meet member needs, build competence, and advance their knowledge base. Education program delivery is through a variety of synchronous as well as asynchronous methods such as: webinars, on demand training, face-to-face - custom/private programs and distance learning.
  2. Maintain existing programs for relevancy and manages the update of existing program using new or more effective modalities such as adaptive learning, distance learning and gamification.
  3. Utilize multiple formats, including print, audio, visual and multimedia, and selects the appropriate format for the target audience or content.
  4. Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure that content is accurate and thorough.
  5. Evaluate the results of educational programs and modifies future programs to meet educational goals. Measure learner engagement through the utilization of data analytics.
  6. Assist AHE by researching, proposing new education programs to meet society objectives. Provide input on requests for training through multiple channels such as direct member communications, senior leadership and education partners to determine potential budget for such programs as well as potential returns.
  7. Prepare reports on AHE educational portfolio, budget, expense and revenue as needed. Monitor progress of all development within budget and timelines. Monitor sales of all educational projects and brings necessary reports to senior team.
  8. Manage and evaluates vendors and consultants as they relate to continuing education services. Manages faculty, faculty training and faculty selection process.
  9. Keep abreast of instructional design trends, technologies and best practices.
  10. Production of select website graphics
  11. Coordinate department-wide framework for cataloguing, storage and maintenance of all instructional design assets ensuring information is accessible and available to all team members.
  12. Continually elevate the stylistic look of materials to keep current with instructional design and website trends.

Qualifications

Education
Bachelors of Adult Education (preferred)

Experience
5 - 7 years: *Advanced knowledge of learning methods, incl. adaptive learning, instructional design models, evaluating learning methods and adapting teaching to maximize course outcomes. *Advanced skills with educational technology such as Articulate, Camtasia + Adobe Creative Suite.*Exp w/website development/content mgmt systems. *PM software experience (MS Project, Smartsheet, Asana, TeamWork). *Exp with CRM software is a plus.*Knowledge of web display languages (HTML, CSS, SCORM, Java). (required)
